Choice

[This article is written by my friend Louis, who is very pro-life and vocal about it]

Choice is a powerful five-letter word. We are taught from the earliest moments of our childhood to choose. We are to discern between right and wrong actions, things pleasing and displeasing, and matters pertaining to life and death. We are taught that every action carries with it a consequence, but the nature of that consequence is to be acquired by life experience, the wisdom of others and sometimes those we have been taught to trust.

Growing up in New York, my life is filled with life experience. In the urban jungle, there is little margin for error, you learn to survive. There are many skills which I acquired when I was a New Yorker, but some had tragic effects.
Gazing upon my words you be must thinking that I led a life of crime, but that couldn’t be farther from the truth. I was a good youth, for the most part, as far as societal standards go. I played sports, did well in school and obeyed my parents most of the time. It wasn’t the tough New York City streets that corrupted me, but the very institution designed to protect and educate me, the school system.

At the tender age of 11, I was already learning about masturbation, sexual intercourse, contraception and abortion. As my formative years continued, I was essentially taught that pre-marital sex was okay, but I had to beware of sexually transmitted diseases (STDs). If my only concern was pregnancy, then the girl could always go on “the pill”. Eventually, I went on to high school and college and was taught more about sexual experimentation and sexual ambiguity.

My early exposure to human sexuality did not improve my decision making; in fact, it corrupted my view on life. I viewed sex merely as a means to self-gratification. It was not life giving. I didn’t even see pregnancy and birthing as realistic outcomes. My mind was programmed to equate unwanted pregnancy with abortion. My thinking was so absurd that I didn’t even know that birth control had negative side effects on the female body. It was never presented to me in all my years of sexual education. I didn’t know that it could cause a woman to have a stroke, heart attack or any number of other serious consequences, and I had encouraged my girlfriends consume it. How I lament now at the damage I may have caused them. Looking at abortion, words like fetus (foetus) meant nothing to me. The word was obscured. Had I only been taught that fetus is Latin for offspring and that when one kills a fetus they kill their offspring not some nameless blob or piece of organic matter. Perhaps, had that knowledge been given to me my decisions would have been different, but now I have to live with the knowledge of how many friends I led down that dark road to abortion.

As I became a man, I made choices based upon what I had learned from those I trusted. Programs, which were supposed to teach women reproductive freedom and men how to be with these women, taught me nothing. I learned nothing of the greatness of what a woman is or the greatness of life. Rather, I learned how to belittle sexual intercourse to a mere act of personal gratification and nothing more. However, my decisions could have been better formed had those around me made better choices. I made poor choices based upon the knowledge I had gained from those I trusted and those I had been entrusted to, but you now have the ability to make choices. Please learn from the mistakes surrounding my life. Be active in what your child learns and don’t always depend on others to teach them what you value because what you value may drastically differ from those you entrust your child to. I must say I am a lucky soul. I found my way out of the sphere of sexual promiscuity and confusion and to back reality in my mid-twenties, but some never do and they remain in the darkness. Choose life and teach your children to do the same.

Elliot's Blog - 99 Balloons (A case of Edward's Syndrome)

As seen on the Oprah show - Eliot was born with an undeveloped lung, a heart with a hole in it and DNA that placed faulty information into each and every cell of his body. However, that could not stop the living God from proclaiming Himself through this boy who never uttered a word. In the midst of heartbreaking tragedy, the Mooney family found the presence of God strengthening, comforting, and guiding them. Their story reminds us to seek God and endure our struggles rather than blame Him for our hardships.

The Silent Scream

"Dr. Bernard Nathanson's classic video that shocked the world. He explains the procedure of a suction abortion, followed by an actual first trimester abortion as seen through ultrasound. The viewer can see the child's pathetic attempts to escape the suction curette as her heart rate doubles, and a "silent scream" as her body is torn apart. A great tool to help people see why abortion is murder. The most important video on abortion ever made. This video changed opinion on abortion to many people."

Abortion Averted

A story of a lady whose mother averted an abortion.

"Some suggested that my mother have an abortion but she did not and so I am alive today. My story in expressed in my video "Morning Has broken: Abortion and Pro-life" Abortion stops a beating heart thousands of times per day. A human heart starts beating 18-24 days after conception, before a woman even knows she is pregnant."
